2009 CFDA Awards, And The Winners Are......

Finally the list was announced, and finally this tough year for fashion under the shadow of shrinking budgets was concluded. I'm happy to find out Rodarte won the Womenswear Designer of the Year, though I feel pity for Marc Jacobs. But just look at those thigh high bandage boots from Rodarte, they are qualified. Also, first lady Michell Obama was awarded a Board of Directors Special Tribute in recognition of her supporting to the names both established and unknown. She appeared on film to say thank you. Here is the full list.

Womenswear Designer of the Year: Rodarte.
Menswear Designer of the Year: A tie! Italo Zucchelli, Calvin Klein and Scott Sternberg, Band of Outsiders.
Accessory Designer of the Year: Proenza Schouler
Swarovski Award for Womenswear: Alexander Wang
Swarovski Award for Menswear: Tim Hamilton.
Swarovski Award for Accessory Design: Justin Giunta for Subversive Jewelry.
International Award: Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton.
Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award: Anna Sui.
Eugenia Sheppard Award: Edward Nardoza, Women's Wear Daily.

Designers, shining stars, and gorgeous dresses are never apart from each other. So, that's why we are so excited about June 15, the big day for designers. Kirsten Dunst, my street style muse but often went wrong on red carpet, embraced a gray bandage dress from Rodarte and made herself shining. And Diane Kruger in a little red dress with details on the shoulder from Jason Wu, Blake Lively in a light pink strapless dress from Michael Kors. Other A-lists include Agyness Deyn, Ashley Olsen, Coco Rocha, Rachel Zoe, Olivia Palermo and pregnant Heidi Klum.

Day 12 Fashion from Cannes Film Festival 2009 - Coco Chanel Gives a Perfect Ending

After 12 day's busy but fantastic events on movies, parties and charities, 62nd Cannes finally comes to the last station - a perfect ending made up of Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky premiere.
Undoubtedly, actress Anna Monglalis, title role in the movie, will be the focus and active all day from photocall to premiere. No matter her dark blue sleeveless dress in typical Chanel style she wears to the photocall, or the huge bow green satin dress shown in premiere are both impressive. Zhang Ziyi strikes back before Cannes' curtain down and looks fantastic in glittering backless gown. Red carpet goddess Shu Qi selects a dark colored gown down to earth to end her trip as a Jury in Cannes. Yes you are right, these are my favorite lists of the final day in 62nd Cannes.

It's the most eye-catching color during the premiere - green with satin luster. Huge bow is exaggerating but makes it feminine. Sexy clue could be found by asymmetric design in the lower hem.

Continuing her outstanding performance in Face Premiere, Zhang Ziyi reaches her peak in the last day. At least for me, it's the best gown Zhang has selected during this Cannes. Backless design is sexy. And fabulous trimmings in wave shape make this gown a fantastic design.

Comparing with Zhang Ziyi, Shu Qi remains a little conservative, but still good, especially with her classic pose. Asymmetric again. Strap design on the shoulder is chic, just like a belt going through a strapless gown and hang it up on the shoulder. But what I love most is the bling bling accessories on her wrist and finger, showing a luxurious but delicate beauty.

Day 11 Fashion from Cannes Film Festival 2009 - Closing to the End

I've said it's a little quiet yesterday when doing review of Day 10 (May 22) fashion from Cannes and guessed stars gonna have a relax. I was proved WRONG!! The post I wrote yesterday was a little early. In fact, too early to wait till all the day 10 photos published. That's why I lost Dolce & Gabbana Party on day 10 fashion.
I have to reorganize it into today's review, and gosh, find wherever I put it, it's shining couldn't be hidden. Still, it is today's focus.
Aside of Dolce & Gabbana Party happened on May 22, events in day 11 (May 23) include premieres of Face, Map of the Sound of Tokyo and visage. But what a pity, these premieres seemed not shining enough in face of Dolce & Gabbana party.
My favorite list again.

Model Katia Kokoreva attends the Dolce & Gabbana Party

Putting this little purple dress aside alone might make it plain one. But Katia makes it fabulous using silver sandals and purse in the same color, as well as her silver short hair. Oh Katia Katia Katia I love you so ~~ much!

Lady Victoria Hervey attends the Dolce & Gabbana Party

Comparatively, Lady Victoria Hervey's glittering dress is more luxurious. Flattering design, 3D floral details on shoulder and waist belt, and pearly luster the material giving, everything just goes perfectly.

Comparing with her performance in events before, Kerry Washington finally stuns us before the ends of this festival, in good direction. Lace and chiffon perfectly define feminine style. Asymmetric design is hot nowdays, it could be seen everywhere.

Actress Zhang Ziyi attends the Face Premiere

Zhang Ziyi performs bad in Cannes 2009. Her dresses in Inglourious Basterds Premiere and amfAR Cinema Against AIDS 2009 benefit sucks. But this dress scores her a small success, to be exact, it's the huge necklace. Seems she mean to copy Shu Qi's style and select a similar maxi dress. Artistic painting is the key point. But personally I still doesn't like her.

Salome Stevenin attends the Face Premiere

It's not easy for mini-skirt to win red carpet. But Salome Stevenin makes it. I'm not sure whether the feather mini skirt from Louis Vuitton SS 09 collection, as they are alike, but I guess nobody will deny it's gorgeous. After all, it's pretty fresh for red carpet looks.

Day 10 Fashion from Cannes Film Festival 2009 - a Little Quiet

Closing to the end, Cannes seemed a little quiet this Friday - day 10 in total 12 day's schedule. Though premieres and parties won't stop, stars seemed need some rests. That's why today's red carpet fashion looks less attractive. Premiere of the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus becomes the biggest event that day. But personally I don't think it's the most fantastic one. Parties hosted by Paul Allen in honor of Dr. Jim Waston, Michelle Yeoh and Dolce and Gabbana respectively show some highlights.
First my favorite list.

Model Dita Von Teese Visits the Dolce and Gabbana Yacht

Dita Von Teese's black-and-white stripe combining with red accessories perfectly echo party's theme. Is there any better option to attend a yacht party than this?

Actress Michelle Yeoh Attends the Amend Charity Luncheon

Michelle keeps her good taste in event. She use this sky-blue dress with pleat design catches our eyes, after her green, purple and champagne colored down-to-earth gown in premieres a few days ago.

Lynn Wyatt Attends the Paul Allen Hosts VIP Party in honor of Dr. Jim Watson

Orange is rare in gown design as it's hard to be managed well. But Lynn Wyatt, this old lady corrects our wrong opinion. Orange could be such an amazing color. This dress would be criticized if changing into another color as almost no highlights could be found from design aspect. But make it an orange one, you see it.

Model Natasha Poly Attends the the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Premiere

Not like her puffy gown in premiere of Inglorious Bastards, which is also one of my favorites, Natasha Poly presents a flattering gown. No complicated design, only the glittering texture and details on the waist speak. But that's enough to make it a good one. Oh, I almost forgot to tell, this movie is another supermodel Lily Cole's first major movie role aside of her model career.
As per the other dresses, it's a little dull and plain. So no comments. After all, it's weekend. Let the pics speak. Enjoy girls~~

Day 9 Fashion from Cannes Film Festival 2009 - amfAR Cinema against AIDS Benefit

As one of the biggest parties during Cannes, amfAR Cinema against AIDS Benefit even steals the premieres' thunder and presents a star studded red carpet fashion, cast including Donatella Versace, designer of Versace, Roberta Armani, niece of Giorgio Armani, Carine Roitfeld, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue France, actress like Diane Kruger, Eva Green, and supermodels like Claudia Schiffer and Lily Cole.
You could imagine how dazzling this party will be once reading above list right? Take a breath and be prepared. Here we go.
First my favorites.

Diane Kruger Arrives for amfAR's Cinema against AIDS Benefit

Continuing her sweet style in former events, Diane Kruger selects Chanel as her company to come to this party. This little white dress looks different among those down-to-earth dresses, of course in good direction. Floral trimmings, bow, and classic black-and-white define Diane's sweet but elegant looks on red carpet.

Hofit Golan Arrives for the amfAR Cinema against AIDS Benefit

Hofit Golan performs good during this Cannes. Nude - one of the hottest color this spring is selected to define an elegant but nice style. And Hofit is sophisticated enough to avoid making the same mistake with Julie, who makes herself look almost naked in Inglorious Bastards premiere. Huge bow on the waist makes this dress kind of sweet, but not the same sweet as Diane above. Hofit is good at to use distinctive lines to define the healthy figure that she proud of, and this time it is the silver ones.

Lily Cole Arrives for amfAR's Cinema against AIDS Benefit

If above dresses looks nice, this diamond blue gown from supermodel Lily Cole stands for another style on red carpet - gorgeous but a little cold and proud that not easy to approach. Though all the red carpet looks seem distant from us, especially from our daily dresses, but you could easily feel the difference between Lily and Diane, Hofit. Diane looks sweet, even Hofit seems nice in nude as it is a warm color. But Lily, maybe models are accustomed to be cool, she is decorated very cool with this gown.

Paris Hilton Arrives for the amfAR Cinema against AIDS Benefit

Forget about Paris' swaggering, just focus on the dress, which stands for another style - luxury. Glittering texture, asymmetric design on the shoulder, ruffles before breast, oh and the gorgeous thick belt around the waist, everything goes perfect.

Shu Qi Arrives for amfAR's Cinema against AIDS Benefit

Yes, it's Shu Qi again. Forgive me putting her on the top list again and again if you don't like her. In my opinion she could be ranked as one of the best dressed Chinese stars, especially on red carpet. She almost never let me down. It seems she plans to stick to this sweet-mix-elegant style until Cannes ends. This time she takes floral maxi dress and continues to display her delicate beauty.

Carine Roitfeld, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue France, Arrives for the amfAR Cinema against AIDS Benefit

If you are still not familiar with her, then remember the face this time. This woman leads the fashion trend around the world though she is not a designer. Like Anna Wintour dominates the fashion world of US, Carine Roitfeld dominates France, the place fashion originates. Yes, she is the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue France, how could she disappoint us with her own dresses! White, the purest color this time changes a new look to defines Carine's big woman style. Asymmetric again.

Donatella Versace arrives for the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS 2009 benefit

Donatella Versace continues her blue-gown style with what she dressed in Met Gala, and wears a similar one but stay the same gorgeous.

Then the baddies.

Whoever the stylist is, she or he should be fired.

Day 8 Fashion from Cannes Film Festival - the Day of Inglorious Bastards

If May 20 is named as the day of Inglorious Bastards, I guess nobody would raise an objection. Of course, I mean the fashion on red carpet.
Aside from Brad Pitt and Angelina Julie, the hottest couple in Hollywood (but personally, I don't like them, as I love Jennifer Aniston you know), you could recognize a list of familiar faces famous for their good taste on red carpet, like Diane Kruger, Natasha Poly, Hofit Golan, Michelle Yeoh and Shu Qi.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Julie Attend the 'Inglorious Bastards' premiere

Though rumor about their fighting recently seems never stops, still Pitt and Julie are here together here to promote Pitt's movie. But Julie is not qualified as the best dressed. The nude gown makes her almost naked!
I pick out the following three dresses as the best with great pain. It's not an easy job as everybody looks gorgeous there. Here is my list:

Diane Kruger at 'Inglorious Bastards' Photocall

Diane Kruger's ivory Marchesa gown with silver rose embroidery wearing on the premiere is OK, but I'm not satisfied with the sleeves. What really captivates me is her little black dress in photocall. Simple cutting with golden buttons makes this LBD luxurious in a neat way and matches her style so perfectly!

Actress Shu Qi attends the Inglourious Basterds Premiere

Comparing with Diane's little black dress and Shu Qi's white gown down to earth, Natasha Poly's gray dress is a little complicated. But not over complicated to make me hate it. Flattering design on the top balances the puffy chiffon in lower part and makes this dress a success.

It has been 7th day of 62nd Cannes Film Festival already before we could recognize it. This will be the 12 days full of awards, parties, cocktails and fabulous dresses. Before we step to a new station, would you permit me brief the red carpet fashion in the past 6 days.
Day 1 - "Up" Premiere
Day 2 - Aishwarya Rai on the Red Carpet
Day 3 - Bright Star Premiere
Day 4 - A Prophet Premiere
Day 5 - Vengeance Premiere
Day 6 - Premieres & the Chopard Trophy
Ok, now let's check out what fashion surprises await on day 7: from Broken Embraces' competition with Vincere, to Dsquared2's Cocktail Reception, from the photocall of Art You Up For the Planet to the Creative Coalition, THR and Screen Media Films Reception.
Excited right? So let's save the unnecessary details and jump to the gorgeous photos.
Premieres first.
In fact, there is no fierce competition between Broken Embraces and Vincere on the red carpet, as Vincere sucks that I don?'t even mean to post it here. But considering it an important movie in day 7, still it's here.
As per Broken Embraces premiere, absolutely Penelope Cruz is the focus there. But as for me, I like her little beige dress on photocall more, which is neat, simple but no lack of details. Michelle Yeoh, the girl seldom goes wrong on red carpet, stuns us with a blue gown with asymmetric design. ~~Vahina Giocante's~~ Hofit Golan's blue gown is also eye-catching.

This luxury brand from Italy throws a cocktail party on May 19, during which, Hofit Golan looks like a goddess in cream colored gown trimmed with gorgeous accessories, like always Phoebe Price goes a wild style, and Peaches Geldof gives a bold match of purple and pink.

During the Creative Coalition, THR and Screen Media Films Reception, Paris Hilton should be praised. This uptown girl used to swaggering around turns into a goddess this time and could be named as one of the best dressed of day 7. Other than her goddess gown, another maxi dress she dressed at Paris, Not France Cocktail Party, is also fabulous. But I doubt she's copy Nicole Richie, who just wear a similar one several days ago.

Finally, the praise should also be given to Diane Kruger and Shu Qi, who attends the Jaeger-LeCoultre Boutique Opening and the Art You Up For the Planet Photocall respectively. Diane Kruger finally gives up her 3D floral serious dresses in former events and takes a new look in this neat, elegant white dress. As per Shu Qi, she picks nude, the hottest color this summer as her color and makes it look fabulous on her. She does not make big mistakes on red carpet in this Cannes if my memory doesn't lie to me. Great.

Day 6 Fashion from Cannes Film Festival 2009 - Premieres the Chopard Trophy

Day 6 fashion heats things up with 2 premieres of Antichrist and Looking for Eric respectively, together with the Chopard Trophy. As per the competition on the red carpet between Looking for Eric and Antichrist, I'm guessing everyone would vote for Looking for Eric as the winner, no matter ruffles or bling bling, long or short, led by Clotilde Courau, Doutzen Kroes, Eleonora Abbagnato, Eva Herzigova, and Hofit Golan, most of the girls give stunning performance there. Love Clotilde Courau's blue gown most, from head to toe are fabulous. Even the jewelry goes perfectly with it. Doutzen Kroes's puffy dress is also ok. But forget about this girl's hair. Hofit Golan also performs well in this white gown down to earth. All her accessories just match perfectly, especially love her super thick belt in silver, if it could be named as a belt.
Other than the competition between these 2 premieres, the Chopard Trophy also shines on the same day. Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele, VP of Chopard is really gorgeous in her little purple dress trimmed with 3D floral. Victoria Hervey leads a down-to-earth style but also gives fabulous look likewise. Silver lines sketch out her healthy figure. Not to say the lovely fringe lying on the ground.

It's better today comparing with day 4 - May 16 from fashion aspect. There are several highlights catching our eyes in Vengeance Premiere, like Shu Qi, who looks really sweet but doesn't ruin elegance, Michelle Yoeh, who always performs well on red carpet, Phoebe Price, who continues her strong style with the day before and gives a prettier hat. But being small in quantity doesn't mean to lose the competition in fashion world. Rachel Weisz, who attends the Agora Photocall, just stunned the world with a neat lace dress in peak green, which seems exactly like the color of trees in early summer.
Finally, Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhardt attend the Quintessentially Dinner Party, and luckily they perform well.

Day 4 Fashion from Cannes Film Festival 2009 - A Prophet Premiere

In fact, there was a competition on May 16 - day 4 between Ann Lee, who brought his Taking Woodstock, and Jacques Audiard, who brought A Prophet. I watched none of them, so I could not judge the movies without any basis. But as per their premieres, and other premieres as well as parties held the same day, I do have something to say.
No gorgeous gowns, not anything catching your eyes in first glance, even if many big names like Juliette Binoche, Monica Bellucci and Sophie Marceau showed up. I give it a serious consideration and present this list below.
Juliette Binoche's beige gown closes the distance between red carpet and audience. It's a great color to make you look nice. Phoebe Price gives a strong personality in a butterfly gown with the help of fab accessories. Sophie Marceau's jumpsuit on Don't Look Back Photocall is kind of elegant. Plus Virginie Efira's glitter mini skirt, and Sarah Marshall's leather skinny at the A Prophet premiere give totally different looks in this elegance dominated red carpet.
But still it's kind of disappointing.
