Born in 1939 in East Prussia as Vera Gottliebe Anna Grafin von Lehndorff-Steinort and enjoyed a wealthy lifestyle residing in East Prussia in a large house on an enormous esate that had been in her family for centuries, Veruschka might have missed her legendary experience as a supermodel across 60s and 70s if the execution to her father for attempting to assassinate Adolf Hitler during WWII never happened. But life doesn't permit the 'if' stuff. That's why we are here to discuss Veruschka - the legendary supermodel dominating late 60s and early 70s.

"I dressed all in black and went to see all the top photographers, like Irving Penn, and said, 'I am Veruschka who comes from the border between Russia, Germany and Poland. I'd like to see what you can do with my face.'"

Veruschka is far from being a pretty face, and 6'1'' is not a proper height to be desirable back then. But the 'go native' style did make her stand out, and more importantly, make her unique. She could stood among jungles - naked, gave a quite Egypt pose in Egyptian desert, played with the waves at the seaside, or just sit down under a tree, or among grasses. Even posing in studio, she gave the photos some artistic feel by making herself sporty.

After reviewing such wild, drastic, and artistic photos, it's not hard to understand why Veruschka departed from the fashion industry in 1975, due to disagreements with Grace Mirabella, the newly appointed editor-in-chief of Vogue who wanted to change her image to make it more approachable to average women. It's cruel to make an extraordinary girl into average. And I guess the tough decision Veruschka made, is quite right.

Girl of the Month : Lindsay Lohan - June 2009

First of all, allow me to say happy birthday to Lilo for her upcoming 23rd birthday on June 2. May she and the on-again off-again girlfriend Samantha Ronson have a happy ending, no matter what obstacles they've met in their relationship, no matter what others said. And May Lilo learn how to love someone, not too push to drive her away, and may Sam, for the sake of love, try to find the truth behind of Lilo's severe behaviors. Life is short, and love should be cherished.
Wherever she is, or wherever her news is, Lilo never fails to rouse argument. I often find fighting words in forums, or gossip website about her fame, or taste on dressing (negative most of the time although). But here, Lindsay Lohan is only a girl embracing her 23rd birthday, seeking the love she has been wanting in childhood but failing to get because of irresponsible parents. Oh I almost forgot, she is also a girl sporting some fabulous style sometimes.

I do believe the figure determines what dresses would make you fabulous. Like Lilo, the girl never fails to make herself sexy, handsome and healthy by showing her legs. What a waste it will be providing she hides the fabulous legs. Jeans short blending with light colored boots is everything, even a simple white Tee does not ruin it at all.
Making her way to Sam's house in LA, Lilo continues biting her fingers and stuns us with a blue boots. Psychology says, such people, I mean biting fingers, feels unsafe about the world. Hope Sam would cure Lilo of this.

If only one girl could be taken out to try the pantless trend this season, I will vote for Lilo. The healthy figure just prevents any nasty thoughts or misunderstanding whether the girl forget to put on her pants, the only thought (at least for me) would be 'damn, she is born for the trend'. Lilo just makes these super mini dresses and cropped, or boyfriend jeans gorgeous.

Aside of showing bare legs, legging is another fav of Lilo, and proved to be a good choice. Cutting a classic black legging like the first pic is really smart to define a depression style. Oh man, she has so many fab boots!

Really, Lilo is far from a pant girl. So I would not put a lot weight on that. But she really loves to make her belly out recently. Start this style from her appearance on the party at AXE Lounge in Southampton, June 12, Lilo also brought it into LA, June 22, and her early celebration for her 23rd birthday at Wet Republic Pool in Las Vegas, June 27. I'm not sure all these belly out looks are pretty. What about you?

Highly praised for the new hair style, Katie Holmes does look much younger and softer. I myself just have a strong impulse to make a similar one, so tender, so chic, so well to balance the tomboy look I heart. Accompanying with her new hair style, Katie sports a mix and match game - cropped leather jacket blending with a see-through tank.

And this must be Katie's new fav as she put the same tops both at CBS Studios in Hollywood on June 15, and during her out and about on June 23. But personally I think the black legging look is better than the jeans short. What about you?

A little boy's hair style, fake eyelashes, a scared expression in her deer like eyes, showing her extremely thin legs in colorful super mini dress, a little awkward but blending with absolute pure only kids possess, too boyish to have any curves on breast, waist and ass. You might have got the answer - Twiggy, who pulled down the traditional taste of beauty. But it is this 'far from beauty girl' that created a beauty revolution and led an androgynous style. Before I had any idea about fashion, during the time I could not even make out the different faces on mags, Twiggy just made me could not move my eyes from her.

Born on September 19, 1949, in Neasden, England, Twiggy, real name of Lesley Hornby, is best known for her icon status as a 1960s supermodel. Though she is equally successful in her pursuit as an actress and singer, we will stick to her modeling story to echo with our theme - Model as Muse.

A height of 167CM, Twiggy is not a runway type. Fashion shoots is her world. She made herself one of the most influencing models of 60s in a short 4 year's career of modeling. At 16, she was declared 'the face of 1966' by the UK's Daily Express.

Twiggy's classic mini dress look, during which the dress looks like hanging on a lovely little branch. Accidentally created by Jean Shrimpton, the Mini Dress overwhelmed 60s gave totally different style when it was on Twiggy instead of Shrimpton. Maybe it's the little boy's hair style, or the extremely thin figure, that made the differences.

But after only four years dominating career as a model, Twiggy retired to the shock of the fashion community. She was reported as stating, "You can't be a clothes hanger for your entire life!"
Above is her looks in pants. Boyish face, boyish figure, in boyish suits, Twiggy perfectly expressed this tomboy style that influenced the fashion world for decades.

Fringe S/S 2009 - Make You Love and Hate (Celeb Way Updated)

We've ever discussed fringe this season that makes us love and hate, and finally I collected enough samples to show how this trend could be when off the runway. Fluid fringe trimmings from Alberta Ferretti, Modern, hard-edged fringe by Jil Sander certainly are strong choices. But there are still other ones, the ones I could not even tag, present the same stunning looks. I have to confess, fringe goes much further at night than during the day. Born for daring fashion icons with great figure, fringed dress is so easy to be fabulous and make whoever wears it absolutely the focus in parties.
Counting the following fringed dresses, something in common could be found - the gals are either models, or have model-like figure (like Taylor Swift), or famous for bold style both in manner and dress (like Lily Allen). Sad about that.

Lily Cole: Exploring her new career in movie, the ex-supermodel Lily Cole remained expressive as always, and shined on 62nd Cannes Film Festival in Alberta Ferretti. The fringe gives silver glitter and goes perfectly with the nude heels. As for me, it's the best one in this group, not only for the pattern, but also the match between model and dress. She is the best model I've ever found to give Alberta Ferretti a gorgeous expression.

Arlenis Sosa Pena: Comparatively, Arlenis Sosa Pena - another model for Alberta Ferretti failed on 2009 Met Gala Red Carpet. Close fringe is folded up, but sadly doesn't flatter at all.

Lily Allen: I don't think Lily Allen always makes herself looks right, just like this blue fringed dress from Alberta Ferretti, someone might argue it doesn't fit her at all. But I really like the design on the back, it's the focus instead of front.

Du Juan: As per another fringe leader this season, Jil Sander is lucky to have Du Juan. This sweet and delicate oriental girl looks gorgeous in the famous white fringed dress from Jil Sander and softens the hard-edged long, slim fringe on 2009 Met Gala Red Carpet.

Miranda Kerr: As the other model in the same tag and event, Miranda Kerr is not bad. But personally I think Du Juan is more expressive.

Heidi Klum: Congratulations Heidi, not only for your gorgeous looks in this black fringed dress from Jasmine Di Milo, but also for your role as a mother-to-be, again. I've mentioned over and over again fringe is so hard to manage well, especially when the girl who wears it happens to be pregnant. Supermodel is a supermodel, Heidi makes it right by selecting the same slim fringe with Jil Sander but shorter in length. Heidi proves it's the perfect length for mother-to-be.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley: In this Alberta Ferretti and Jil Sander dominated fringe world, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's red mini-dress with fringing details gives a fresh look though I could not tag it. The slim fringe under the sleeves is the key to make it flapper and stand out.

Born 7 November 1942 in High Wycombe, Jean Shrimpton was one of the top fashion models of the sixties alongside Twiggy. As an icon of swinging London, Jean, nicknamed as 'The Shrimp', possessed some of the gamine (means playful, naughty child) features that also made a huge success of the younger Twiggy. If both were featured as naughty child style, then the difference is Twiggy a boy, but Jean a naughty girl with abundant glamour.

Claimed suffering from a fat face, a weak left profile, small eyes, big feet and bags under her eyes, Jean once said 'if you take off the makeup, I'm ugly.' Hard to imagine what else the girls on the world would be if she is ugly, but I do notice she tended to put her right profile in the lens, like these famous scarf looks.

A group of photos demonstrated how Jean Shrimpton defined naughty child with abundant glamour and differentiated herself with Twiggy. Polka dot blending with ruffles around neck and wrist, dolls background, or innocence in her eyes, everything is just right.

If something must be named to make a model great as a muse, then mini dress is the 'something' connected to Jean Shrimpton. Here is a story about mini skirt that overwhelmed the 1960s but proved to be an accident. Of course, it's also a story about Jean Shrimpton.
Although her face was famous throughout the world, Jean's major contribution to the fashion revolution didn't occur until 1965 when she was hired to present the prizes for the Melbourne Cup in Australia.
The fashion company Orlon, who hired her, didn't brief her on the assignment. They also sent her some inexpensive dress and suit lengths, rather than ready-made outfits.
Jean was left to design what she wanted and had them made up. She hired a dressmaker, Colin Rolf, who discovered there was not sufficient fabric for her designs. He then said: 'oh, it doesn't matter. Make them a bit shorter. No one's going to notice.' She settled for four outfits, all above the knee. And that's how the mini was born.
On the day of the race she didn't bother wearing any stockings, her dress was short, she had no hat or gloves. And the organizers were cross. The Melbourne Cup was the smartest event in the Australian year, the conservatively dressed members of Australian society who attended were shocked at her appearance, which they considered insulting and disgraceful.
She was surrounded by photographers shooting upwards to make her skirt look even shorter. She became a cause celeb. She appeared on the front pages of newspapers throughout the world. It created a huge controversy in Australia, with half the country for her and half against, with the young people loving it. The pictures, which the British newspaper had used, had the same results back home. Suddenly the mini, which had had a half-hearted start in Paris, became fashionable. Mary Quant rode in on the back of it, immediately making shorter skirts. Many people gave her credit for the new craze, but the truth was that the mini took off because Orlon had been stingy with the fabric.

But according to Wikipedia, Shrimpton eventually found a more enduring love with her photographer husband Michael Cox, with whom she has a son, born in 1981. They ran a small hotel in Penzance, Cornwall. Happy for her.

Finally summer arrives, and finally we need not to be jealous of LA's warm weather and can dress the same fab dresses as the celebs, of course, if you grab the key.
This week's best dressed are fantastic: Sienna Miller strikes back on the street style and sports her typical mix-&-match, Kirsten Dunst is finally back into the lens of paparazzi and throw an all-in-black dress stunning us as usual, Hayden Panettiere extends the pantless trend, Heidi Klum and Whitney Port's statement shoes, also there are all season pieces like ankle boots prevailing on summer street.

Sienna Miller brought less surprises recently, but this time she brought a big one. Denim vest balances the soft style of floral print, suede ankle boots and shoulder bag in same color add a cow-girl feel. In a word, Sienna gives a fantastic mix and match game. Expecting she would keep it going.

My always muse, Kirsten Dunst is finally back into the lens of paparazzi and gives her sophisticated all-in-black look even in summer. Keep up her casual and comfy style, Kiki controls her heels within 3CM. We could even find similar looks in her past photos. But Kiki is good at showing her taste in details, gray-and-white check scarf could be putting around neck, or tied on the bag. And golden rivet as trimmings on the bag like stars scattered in dark background.

Depression produces trends for boyfriend pieces, like boyfriend jeans, and boyfriend blazer, both are one size bigger than normal. But that doesn't equal to putting boyfriend's pieces on without any effort. The key is being looked effortless, but really we need to do a lot of work to make it right and avoid looking like a man. Alex Chung gives a typical looks: lace mini dress and ankle boots define a total feminine style, but it will not make her stand out until boyfriend jeans is 'effortlessly' put on and looks like huge for the slim figure.

No more comments. If you have fab legs like Alessandra Ambrosio, show it and score with such gray suede ankle boots. Trust me, it'll speak aloud.

You thought such ripped jeans and loose tops would blend with sneaker and rough bag? Whitney Port tells it's not the only option, and proves surprises could be achieved providing exquisite bag and shoes were added in. These two paradoxical styles could be blended so well.

Nicole Richie surely is an icon under any circumstance. Like now, she set a good example for mother-to-be. Stopping her maxi dress look, Nicole selects a loose tweed top with asymmetric cutting to cover bump, and sports a little sexy with mini skirt. Ankle boots again, for all season.

Chloe Sevigny has shown a similar look in Chloe LA Boutique Opening Party. Luckily she's smart to grab details to make herself look different. Thanks the vintage bag and sunglasses, both are statement accessories and absolutely give a hard-edged look.

Seems Hayden Panettiere is eager to catch pantless trend, and determines to exceed her peers Vanessa Hudgens and Mary Kate Olsen, who have brought this disputed trend on the street late April. But I guess she makes it. Pantless in public is hot enough, not to say express it in NUDE and see-through material! Definitely it'll be eye catching wherever you are but hard to make right.

First, I should say Happy birthday to Heidi Klum. And then, the judge^_^ This 36-year-old super model and fashion mom sports another all-in-black look. Black skinny and loose blouse are casual but balanced by flattering blazer and statement patent leather shoes glittering.

Jessica Alba is absolutely expert of cardigan looks, which dominated her street style almost the whole May. This one is my favorite, for three reasons. First, it presents how to mix up basic pieces like boyfriend jeans, white Tee and loose cardigan. Then the scarf and loose cardigan are available for all season. Finally it's the magic between her sweet spirit and the cool pieces. Absolutely it will be different if putting the same dresses on Heidi Klum, or Katie Holmes.

Love her or hate her, socialite Paris Hilton attracts people's attention no matter on the way she lives, or the style she looks. Flying around the whole month and busy at attending parties in US, Paris, Turkey and London, Paris also brings us into a fabulous fashion trip. From sporty style off duty, to little bling dress in party, from thigh high boots, to restless headgear, and maxi dress, this girl gives all of them a Paris Hilton tag, and swaggers around.
Personally I'm not that into her, anyway, it doesn't ruins my heart to those fabulous bling bling. During 62nd Cannes Film Festival lasting 12 days from 13 to 24 May, she even outplays the movie stars on red carpet, especially her little bling dress in different colors.

Bling bling defines Paris' leading style this month, and echoes with her swaggering spirit. Different colors like purple, gray, black, golden, silver, nude and fade-in are dazzling. Strapless and sleeveless dominate the design. No matter long or short, we may find no complicated design here. Even trimmings are rare, except the silver one with huge bow on the waist. Yes, bling bling itself is loud enough to say 'look at me look at me look at me!' and catch the eyes. Complicated design and trimmings are unnecessary and will ruin it all. Swagger like Paris, goes no more than jewelries and clutches. But personally, I favor short ones and knee-length is my limitation.

You think Paris totally a mini dress type in event? Most of the time it's right, but not always. She may also look gorgeous, even elegant in down-to-earth gown! If you think the pink over sweet, the dark cyan over luxury, the floral print maxi over flirty, then the white goddess-like gown must be qualified to be elegant.

Low profile might be the last thing Miss Hilton would chase. First the bling bling, then the bold colors, different elements but the same sharp looks to catch attention. Peak green is sweet but a little too young for a girl nearing her 30s. Whatever, Miss Hilton enjoys it. Purple is mysterious instead of sharp, but Miss Hilton always find a way to stand out. This time, her weapon is the fresh design before breast and waist. Leopard, no need to waste words, pretty wild. As per the candy orange strapless dress, presents similar looks with the peak green to make herself as sweet as possible, in more luxurious way.

Even party girl like Miss Hilton needs off duty time, to stroll around, shop and date with BF, or even have some sunbath. The geometric print maxi sports a leisure style which is perfect for vacation. The 'I Love My Style' Tee is qualified to be a statement piece and possibly speaks what Paris wanna say at the moment. Off duty might mean some leisure style to make yourself comfy, better if it happens to be chic. But not for Miss Hilton, who makes a date like attending party and seems always well prepared for paparazzi. Honest, I don't really support such idea, but on the other hand, I'd like to admit her leather vest and thigh high boots are not bad.

As I mentioned in 10 Best Street Chic (top 10 street style around the world I picked out), celeb on the street is good inspiration to help us understand how the hottest runway looks are brought onto street. And here are my favorites during last week.
To talk of the favorite, it's a matter of subjective, so I'll try to catch and analysis the trend objectively. But sometimes prejudice is unavoidable you know, like I prefer minimalism and simple design with interesting details is my love, like I love Kirstun Dunst famous for her fab taste on bags and her fab skill to dress black and flats, like I prefer Katie Holmes famous for your tomboy look. Anyway, I'll try to keep this list diversified and colorful.
This week's list is good inspiration for nude, black and blue.

Stephanie Jacobsen attends the 2009 The CW Network UpFront. Seriously, it's not a dress on the street, but I thought it would be perfect example to party - perfect conjunction between black and nude, neat and flattering, the only trimmings focus before breast and around waist.

Taylor Momsen's look at a party held at the Gramercy Park Hotel. As usual this punk girl selects an all-in-black look and red lips. Feather dress, leather vest and gladiator sandal rock a typical Taylor Momsen style. But it's not easy to copy, unless you possess as healthy figure as little J.
PS: this little girl develops a strong style on or off duty. Comparatively, Blake Lively doesn't work as hard as little J and fail to show a stunning look recently. Even her Versace look in Meg Gala is criticized.

Kate Moss' look in London to pick up takeout. Strong fashion icon like Kate would give a new look to classic matches, like black and white, recognized as behalf of elegance, totally becomes Kate's style. And kate also gives a sample to keep your winter piece, like boots, working in summer. If you wanna catch fringe, a bag like this would be the easiest way for you. This fringe bag accompanies her trip to NYC when 1st Topshop opening there, if my memory doesn't cheat me.

As I mentioned above, Katie Holmes is my muse and proves a real fashion icon lead the trend instead of following. Remember the boyish jeans? It's inspired from Katie! Love her tomboy look so much. And this time, Katie captures me with her gym pants, effortless scarf and gray top. No exaggerating design but you just obsessed by the whole. The cream colored bag is handsome and textured, the only item to distinguish her from crowd. And it's important, keep that in mind.

Sherri Saum's look in NYC street. Another chic story telling by the color. And Sherri shows a perfect spectrum of beige.

Bad girl Lilo changes her casual style lasting for several days and gives a handsome look this week, completing by skinny, and flattering black blazer. If fringe is the trend you would give a try, then look at Lilo, who sports it on heels.

Honest, I have no impression about this girl before the day I found the pic. But surely I'll keep the girl in mind, Nicola Roberts, whatever she does, singer or make up designer, just for her taste on fashion. Sigh, seems this lists are full of color games. Nicola makes a plain blue shirt fabulous by her Chanel bag. This match is not frequent to be seen but opens up another way to keep you chic and special.

Honest, Rihanna is not my type though undeniably she leads a strong style of her own. But this black-and-nude strapless dress shown on NYC street makes her style soften. Yes, nude is a warm color that could even balance strong style like Rihanna.

International airport is a busy spot for paparazzi, as stars seems never stop flying around. And this is Carrie Underwood heads to LAX Airport in Los Angeles. We have no idea where she is heading to, but we know her blue dress is fantastic to be a good sample in summer. In first glance it looks like a bath robe, but the strap design on the shoulder distinguishes it. Maybe someone will dislike it, but it's interesting.

Khloe Kardashian, sister of Kim Kardashian. This is another star I have no idea before I make this list. But the super-huge had bag makes her stand out, which echoes with golden accessories. But short girls should avoid it. It makes people have a desire to wrap you up and put into the bag^_^

No doubt one of important clues for girls wanna stay chic is to review celebs daily dresses. With the help of stylists, these dazzling stars always look amazing in their fab dresses everywhere. But if you gaze celeb's photos taken by paparazzi, it's not hard to find all of them are familiar. I don't mean the clothes or faces, I mean the feel, typical like Paris Hilton's swaggering, Kate Moss's poker face. I don't hate them, as I understand it's part of their job, to showing off their fab dresses everywhere. In fact, I kind of love some of them, like Katie Holmes and Kirstun Dunst, as they DO present strong personal style and provide clues to ordinary girls like you and me.
But comparatively, I love those unknown girls with strong personality on the street even more. It is the REAL street style without influenced by PR or stylist. I'm always captivated by these lively gals. They are not only showing their dresses, but also their crazy, happiness, sadness, coolness. In a word, they are showing the inner self as a real person.
What a pity I'm not a photographer, who could find the beauty on the street and record them with camera. But thanks to those fashion photographers, who present street style worldwide and keep us posted about the latest fashion stories happening right now. I love them so much, that I couldn't resist posting my favorites here. In fact, I start this try from last week at 10 best street chic this week. I'll try to update it in a daily basis if time permits. Stay tuned if you love it as well.
This week my favorites cover Paris, New York City and Copenhagen. And it's not until reviewing my final list when I realize how "black" it is though it has been summer already. But in affirmative opinion, this also proves how chic black is, as it helps street chic worldwide staying chic at the same time.

Focus: ankle out, the white Tee and golden belt shines among black, tell you how cool it is to match an all-in-black outfit with black scarf. It is cool, neat and typical style for big woman.

Focus: a photo I found on styleandthecity.com and captivated me in my first sight. Still black is the leading color and makes the outfit cool. But jumpy colors of red and white in small proportion make it lively. Minimalism is the key, complicated design will be unnecessary.
